There's an interesting article about Neil LaBute in The New York Times, Neil LaBute Has a Thing About Beauty, including Aaron discussing their friendship:

Probably the one man in theater who knows LaBute best is the actor Aaron Eckhart. Their relationship goes back to the early ’90s, when both were active in theater at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. “We had a special relationship,” Eckhart told me. “We were both Mormons. We liked ‘dark material.’ We’d have breakfast a lot. We discussed the work. Everything about Neil is about ‘the work.’ He has no time in his life for other stuff. We never discussed being a Mormon, or where his dark stuff came from, or his wife, or his dog — I think it was a shepherd.” Those would have been uncomfortable conversations to have with LaBute. “He’s elusive.”

Also another quote:

LaBute relies a lot on his actors to bring out in his plays what is missing on the page. “I always want to give the play back to the actors,” he told me. He said that his friendship with Eckhart was based on the fact that “I can’t do on a page what Aaron fulfills in my characters onstage. We fulfill each other’s needs. Our friendship is based on, We can do good work together.”

march 16, 2009 - julia mentions aaron - posted by jamie

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (March 20 09), Julia Roberts talked about her former male co-stars and had some kind words about Aaron.

"[Director] Steven Soderbergh said, 'What do you think about Aaron Eckhart for George?' and I was like, 'Huh?' So he came in. He had been working on Any Given Sunday, so he had this short, clean-cut hair, and he looked so nice, and I thought, No, I don't get this at all. But the next time I saw him, he just blew the doors off that character, the way he was with the kids, and that scene where we first meet and he's revving the engine of his motorcycle and I come out screaming at him. That's all Aaron."

Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Leibesman talked to MTV about the movie and had some great compliments about Aaron. Here's a few snippets:

'Battle: Los Angeles' Blockbuster Will Have Director Reinvent Aliens, Aaron Eckhart (source: MTV)

.... In a similar attempt to redefine something we’ve become familiar with, Aaron Eckhart will be similarly giving himself an extreme makeover.

“He’s like a Clint Eastwood-esque leader of the platoon,” Liebesman said of the “Dark Knight” actor’s first true action hero role. “He’s grizzled…He’s taking these young guys into battle, turning them into men.”

“He’s awesome,” the director said of Eckhart’s plans. “He’s just gonna knock this out of the park. You could tell when I met him, he was just right on the target of how he wanted to play this character. So, we are rewriting it with his notes and his input. I just can’t wait to work with him; it’s gonna rock.”

I've added some semi new candids of Aaron getting Starbucks at Robertson Blvd in January, photos from Oleanna and Conversations with Other Women.

'Cosmo' award winners embrace fun and hear (source: USA Today)

.......

Eckhart, who counts painting his barn in Santa Barbara on a 20-foot ladder earlier this week one of his more recent fearless acts, says being fearless means being yourself.

"I think the most fearless thing you can do in this world is be yourself and really and truly not care about what anybody thinks of you," he says. "But, nobody can do that. It's impossible to do, yet we always strive to do it. And I think if we do that, we try to have the most fun. It's all about keeping it real, baby!"
